CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES
This course provides students with the fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge required to comprehend and conduct the primary cardiovascular diagnostic tests, both non-invasive and invasive, and to interpret their outcomes within a clinical context. Particular attention is paid to the main cardiovascular diseases, from their pathophysiology to their diagnosis, and to the role of instrumental diagnostics in the diagnostic and therapeutic pathways for patients requiring cardiology or cardiac surgery.
The course will cover the fundamentals of electrocardiography, stress testing, echocardiography, computed tomography (CT) and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as well as the principles of invasive diagnostics such as coronary angiography and cardiac catheterisation. The physiopathological and diagnostic aspects of the primary cardiovascular diseases, such as ischaemic heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies and valvular heart disease, will be explored in depth, with reference to intraoperative diagnostics and haemodynamic monitoring.
