Learning outcomes

- be able to recognize clinical conditions with a high risk of organ damage and potentially life-threatening conditions;
- interpret diagnostic techniques (laboratory, instrumental),
- recognize clinical signs from physical examinations
- accurately assess a patient's clinical feature, summarizing clinical, laboratory, and instrumental data
- plan a diagnostic-therapeutic pathway

  • I. Introduction and Organization1 hour- The concept of Critical Care, Urgency, and Emergency. - The organization in the Emergency Department (Triage and Fast Track). - Ethical and legal roles/responsibilities of the Nurse in emergency.

  • II. The Approach to the Critical Patient (ABCDE)2 hours- Primary and Secondary Survey (ABCDE Principle). - Airway: Recognition and management of obstruction (basic maneuvers). - Breathing: Assessment and initial support (oxygen therapy, basic non-invasive ventilation tools). - Circulation: Recognition and management of Shock (perfusion assessment, rapid vascular access).

  • III. Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS/AED)2 hours- The Chain of Survival. - Basic Life Support (BLS) and use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). - Recognition and post-arrest care.

  • IV. Neurological Emergencies and Basic Trauma1.5 hours- Disability (Neurological): Simplified Glasgow Coma Scale, pupillary assessment. - Exposure/Environment: Temperature management and patient dignity. - Trauma: Principles of cervical spine stabilization and basic immobilization (pre-hospital management).

  • V. Review and Rapid Triage0.5 hours- Examples of Triage (Color Codes) and intervention priorities. - Summary and Q&A session.
