Learning outcomes
The integrated course aims to provide students with a solid theoretical and methodological foundation in macroscopic and microscopic observation techniques applied to pathological anatomy, as well as in the fundamental principles of histological, cytological, and electron microscopy methods. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to appropriately apply macro- and microscopic observation techniques and actively contribute to the anatomo-pathological diagnostic process, integrating technical expertise with clinical requirements. Students will also develop the ability to interpret and critically evaluate the quality of histological and cytological preparations, identifying potential technical errors or artifacts in relation to the pathological and clinical context.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have basic knowledge and theoretical–practical foundations acquired through prior study of laboratory methodologies.
Programme
Module: Pathological Anatomy Institutions
Study of the mechanisms of disease, with particular emphasis on cell injury and the morphological alterations associated with inflammatory processes and neoplastic diseases.
The Pathology Laboratory in everyday practice: a survival guide for Biomedical Laboratory Technicians. Risks, critical issues, and unexpected challenges: how to recognize and prevent them.
Understanding clinicopathological terminology and its significance in the management of biological specimens: from specimen preservation for specific diagnostic investigations to the assessment of surgical resection margins.
The role of the Biomedical Laboratory Technician in precision medicine: from specimen management for molecular testing to immunohistochemical characterization.
Module: Laboratory Medicine Techniques:
Pathological Anatomy: Historical Background.
Purpose of the Anatomo-pathological Diagnosis.
Diagnostic Process in Pathological Anatomy.
