Course program
Deleterious effects of Physical Inactivity and sedentary behaviour. Impact of Physical Inactivity on the World’s Major NonCommunicable Diseases. Sedentary behaviour and Major NonCommunicable Diseases. Chronic low-grade inflammation: Cardiometabolic risk factors (FRCM). Behavioral determinants of FRCM and chronic noncommunicable diseases. Energy Metabolism and physical exercise. Energy balance. Overall design of the cardiovascular system: the Fick Principle. Adjustments and Adaptations for cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic exercise. Maximal oxygen uptake. Quantifying the intensity of the exercise. Metabolic equivalent of tasks (MET). Components of physical fitness. Beneficial effects of an active lifestyle. Pathological effects of sedentariness. The elements of the exercise prescription: frequency, intensity, type and time (the FITT model).
Prerequisites
Physiological basis of the cardiovascular, respiratory and energy systems.

Slides and presentations used during the lessons will be made available to students, containing the most recent and important scientific articles on each topic. Frequency
Three hour lectures every 2 weeks in the II semester of the Academic Year (from march to may).
Exam mode
Oral exam with the Professors of all the topics included the program (Motor Sciences, Public Health, Orthopaedics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Possible written exonerative exams of part of the whole program.

Lesson mode
The lectures are given in "blended" modality: the Lecturer and most of the Students physically attend the lecture but teaching is also delivered remotely for possible students affected by CoViD-19. All the lectures are also recorded and provided, together with a slides' pdf, in a google drive folder.
