Learning outcomes

Learning general outcomes
At the end of the course, the student must acquire knowledge, skills and ability to perform care
activities for managing an infant or child.
In particular, it aims to provide the elements for a preliminary knowledge of an understanding and
application of global and systematic assessments of the baby, recognizing in the person the signs of
normality and change in the health / disease condition, with the use of tools and integrated systems,
taking into account physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual and environmental factors.
The course aims to illustrate the main tools for the clinical assessment of the intellectual, linguistic, neuropsychological, and psychopathological development of children and adolescents. The main pathological conditions affecting children and adolescents in the fields of neurology, developmental disorders, and psychiatry will be described, with an analysis of the predisposing and etiological factors, the symptoms, and the main treatment modalities, including pharmacological, rehabilitative, and psychotherapeutic approaches.
Use the nursing process to assess and resolve risks related to the main
clinical manifestations in obstetrics and gynecology.

Learning Outcomes
• Knowledge and understanding: to know the physiopathological, psychological and socio-
cultural conditions for the management of an infant or child.
• Applying knowledge and understanding: carry out, through data collection and analysis,
The correct procedure for the management of an infant or a child
• Making judgements: be able to argue the meaning of each welfare activity according to
the principles of EBN
• Communication skills: to be able to illustrate in a synthetic and analytical way, highlight the
relevant points, provide examples, and know how to use a scientifically correct language
• Learning skills: knowing how to read and understand publications, assistance protocols,
knowing how to ask questions. Knowing how to search the bibliographic sources necessary to
acquire new knowledge

• Pediatric Infectious diseases
• Fever and Rehumatic disease
• Respiratory disorders (asthma, pneumonia, bronchiolitis)
• Gastroenterological disorders (abdominal pain, celiac disease, gastroesophageal reflux)
• Upper airways inflammation
• Cardio-repiratory monitoring pediatric patients
• Vaccinations
SPECIFIC PROBLEMS IN NEONATAL AGE:
• The healthy newborn, morphological characteristics, anthropometric measures.
• Neonatal adaptation: functional characteristics of the main organs and systems and detection of vital parameters
• Respiratory and cardio-circulatory adaptation: main pathologies
• Newborn Assistance.
• Main physiological phenomena: weight loss, changes in the umbilical cord, physiological and pathologic jaundice
• Start of feeding. Promotion of breastfeeding: "rooming in"
• Additional feeding techniques: mixed breastfeeding, "artificial" milks.
• Newborn screening. The discharge of the newborn

Module: PSYCHOLOGY OF GROWTH AND EDUCATION
The course aims to provide the student with the basic knowledge that can be applied to the work of nurses in contact with patients of different age groups, with particular reference to the period from birth to the early years of primary school. The first 6 hours will be dedicated to the following topics:
- the theories in developmental psychology;
- the neonatal period and the first years of the child's life;
- attachment;
Additional 6 hours will be useful to cover the following topics:
- the child's self-regulation and temperament;
- emotions and social behaviors.
