Course program
-Analysis of the patient’s medical history (interview, subjective and objective assessment, critical interpretation of arterial blood gas analysis, chest X-ray, CT scan, and spirometry);
-Measurement of vital signs;
-Chest auscultation;
-Exercise tolerance assessment tests: Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), Shuttle Walking Test, Sit-to-Stand Test, Step Test, and Incremental Exercise Test;
-Physical performance assessment tests: Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), Timed Up and Go (TUG), and 4-Metre Gait Speed (4MGS);
-Muscle strength assessment tests: One Repetition Maximum (1RM) and dynamometry;
-Airway clearance techniques: modulation of flow–volume patterns, positive pressure devices, oscillatory devices, ventilatory techniques, and EFA systems;
-Lung re-expansion techniques: positive pressure and ventilator-assisted techniques;
-Exercise reconditioning and re-training programmes;
-Muscle strengthening programmes.
All the topics listed above will be addressed through practical clinical case discussions and hands-on sessions, allowing students to develop both practical skills (“knowing how to do”) and professional attitudes (“knowing how to be”).

Exam mode
The assessment consists in the completion of a clinical case related to a patient with cardiorespiratory problems, developed through the following steps:
-Patient assessment;
-Identification of physiotherapy problems;
-Formulation of rehabilitation goals;
-Development of a physiotherapy programme;
-Selection of appropriate techniques and interventions;
-Final evaluation and outcome assessment.
