Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:

Recognize the main clinical conditions of internal medicine, endocrinology, orthopedics, and rheumatology with impact on the foot and lower limb.

Understand the pathophysiological basis and systemic implications of metabolic, inflammatory, and degenerative diseases affecting foot health.

Contribute to the multidisciplinary management of patients, focusing on prevention and treatment of podiatric complications.

Apply clinical knowledge to identify signs of diseases requiring specialist referral or medical intervention.

Prerequisites

The student must have basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and general pathology, with particular reference to the musculoskeletal, vascular, and nervous systems. Understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of major systemic diseases that may affect the foot is required.

Lessons mode

Teaching activities include lectures supported by multimedia materials, aimed at providing theoretical and clinical foundations of the disciplines. Case discussions and interactive sessions are also planned to promote integration between internal medicine, endocrinology, orthopedics, and rheumatology in relation to podiatric practice.

Frequency

Attendance at teaching activities is compulsory, in accordance with the degree course regulations. Active participation in lectures and any practical sessions or clinical case discussions is required.

Exam mode

Oral examination, optional in-progress assessments may be carried out to monitor the student’s progress during the course.
