Learning outcomes
To provide students with the knowledge and skills to identify urgent or emergency situations within a rehabilitation setting. To enable students to recognize the signs and symptoms of critical conditions and emergency/urgent issues, as presented by the teaching staff (surgeon, anesthesiologist, and respiratory physiotherapist). To provide an overview of approaches and initial treatment for critically ill patients. To enable students to apply the knowledge acquired to identify key clinical syndromes. To develop the ability to manage a patient experiencing an urgent or emergency situation during the course of rehabilitation.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology
Programme
Module: EMERGENCY GENERAL SURGERY
Provide students with the knowledge and skills to identify a surgical emergency/urgency that has implications for rehabilitation. Recognize the signs and symptoms of critical illnesses: multiple trauma, thoracic and abdominal trauma, and bleeding in the digestive and respiratory systems. Ability to distinguish and describe tracheotomy and tracheostomy. Acquire the ability to identify a patient with a surgical emergency/urgency.
Module: ANESTESIOLOGY
Practical clinical knowledge of the principles governing the doctor-patient relationship in the field of anesthesiology. Knowledge of anesthesia principles and techniques (general, locoregional).
