Objectives
The student learns to recognize the signs and symptoms related to major diseases of surgical interest charged to: head and neck, breast, chest, abdomen, digestive system. Recognize and set up the treatment of the following medical conditions: surgical infections, trauma, wounds, ulcers, abscesses, post-operative complications. Know the main power mode in the surgical patient. Peripheral and central venous access. Know and define the paths of sterility, aseptic and professionals in the operating theater
Learning outcomes
Knowledge: The student will have learned the pathophysiology of the main surgical pathologies
Skills: Students will be able to understand the pathology and will be able to implement the main maneuvers for stabilizing and taking charge of the patient within a surgery department
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and surgical pathologies.

At the end of the course the student should be able to:
• Plan, organize, implement and evaluate healthcare interventions of medium complexity in the areas of General and specialized surgery and inserted in a context of multi-professional action.
• Know and be able to provide correct and effective application techniques and while respecting the fundamental principles of the profession and adapt these services to the assisted person, in relation to the different surgical procedures that will have to support.
• Draw up comprehensive care plans, the most common of surgical cases.
• Demonstrate their willingness to listen, to relationships and linkages as well as comparing arguing over results of their work, the study of clinical cases and simulated maintaining openness to dialogue and listening.
• Know and apply critical care procedures and protocols in use in General and specialized surgery.
CONTENT
Preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative nursing.
Acceptance of the patient in surgery and classification of surgical procedures.
Mode and type of shelter.
Informed consent.
The surgical unit.
Surgical instruments.
Internal leakage
The treatment of surgical wounds and dressings.
Nursing interventions directed to the treatment of addominalied urinary ostomy.
Intravenous therapy: peripheral and Central vascular accesses.
Bronchoscopy, spirometry and cystoscopy.
Gastric, duodenal probing, intestinal and stomach pumped.
Thoracentesis, puncture, spinal tap and Medullary bulleted
Hepatic and renal biopsy.
Transfusion of blood and blood derivatives: nursing responsibilities.
CARE PLANS
Standard service plan in patient undergoing thyroidectomy surgery.
Standard service plan in patient undergoing Prostatectomy.
Standard service plan in patient undergoing mastectomy.
Standard service plan in patient undergoing hysterectomy.
In addition to these surgical plans even those acquired as part of the seminar in general nursing and clinic applied to surgery.
