Course objectives

The main objective of the course is to provide students with a sufficiently broad knowledge of the lexicon in English. This mastery is acquired through the consolidation of the basic skills of the language (spoken, listening, reading and writing), to allow the understanding of specialized texts, also encouraging the independent study and practice of communication skills useful for the work. 1. Knowledge and understanding: The course starts from a pre-intermediate level (A2). Students will study texts and specialist materials related to business English for this level.

Course program
The course involves the study of specialist Business English at the basic level, i.e. level A2, thus combining the study of basic grammar with that of sectorial vocabulary, very close to Business English. Grammatical study topics will be the following: Present simple, Present simple, Subject and object questions, Present continuous, Quantities and performance, Modal verbs, Past tenses (regular and irregular verbs), Present perfect, Future tenses, Comparatives and superlatives, Verb for invitations (Would v. Want), Verbs for a video-call, Passive form of present simple. Elementary pronunciation: -s endings, -ed endings, vowel sounds, silent letters. The course concerns a professionally oriented discourse towards a sectorial linguistic study that allows a basic knowledge of Business English useful in a contemporary era like ours in which it is necessary to master the various channels in which corporate communication spreads its possibilities: email, telephone, meetings. The course involves the development in the student of the 4 language skills: speaking, writing, reading, listening. For this reason, the course will be practical and the students will actively participate in class in doing oral and written exercises with the aim of improving the student's expressive fluidity and confidence in interpersonal communication. Exam mode
Method: written exam The written exam is in the form of a computerized test on the website www.exam.net to be carried out via the university PC. The exam is at level A2 and includes grammar exercises, specialist vocabulary and the writing of a specialist article or an email following the instructions provided by the exam test. In the written exam you cannot use nor the monolingual English vocabulary neither the bilongual dictionary. The written exam has a maximum duration of n. 2 hours (if the student finishes early they can hand in and leave early). During the exam students cannot exit to go the toilet or similar. Type of grade upon passing the exam (written + oral): ELIGIBILITY CFU: 3 Instructions for taking the exam To take the exam you need to enroll for the exam session on INFOSTUD. Accreditation of attendance on the day of the exam: In accordance with the University Regulations, on the day of the exam you must accredit your presence by showing your identity document (Italian identity card, or driving license, or passport - NO photocopied) and you must sign your presence. Students with DSA, in addition to registering for the exam session on Infostud, must also inform the Sapienza DSA office (e-mail: ufficio.dsa@uniroma1.it) of the exam date for which they have registered, in order to have a personalized exam. Disabled students, in addition to registering for the exam on Infostud, must also inform the Sapienza disability office (email: ufficio.disabilita@uniroma1.it) in order to have a personalized exam.
