By the end of the course, students should demonstrate knowledge of:
1) the epidemiology of Nutrition and Eating Disorders (NAD), the characteristics of the main clinical conditions (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and others), with particular reference to both categorical and dimensional diagnostic criteria; the main other major psychiatric disorders (psychosis, affective disorders, personality disorders);
2) the main paradigms of clinical psychology, with particular reference to the evidence-based approach; the main NAD assessment and diagnosis tools; the main risk and protective factors in reference to the biopsychosocial model; the main NAD prevention and treatment programs.
3) the main cognitive processes as well as the main distortions: SENSATION and PERCEPTION; LEARNING; MEMORY; ATTENTION.

Module: GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY
The course teaches interesting topics about psychology, such as sensation, perception, learning, memory, and attention. It delves into perception theory and explores the interesting topic of how perceptions can be distorted. The course also includes the psychology of taste and how we perceive and enjoy different types of food, both natural and processed. Additionally, the course highlights the impact of certain disorders on our enjoyment of food.

The course also delves into conditioning paradigms and learning methods that are commonly used in clinical settings. This course discusses the latest methods of studying learning and provides important information on information processing systems, encoding, retention, memory retrieval, and recent approaches to studying memory.

Finally, the course looks at the theoretical and behavioral aspects of selective attention, vigilance, and sustained attention. It also covers attentional disturbances that can occur during mental processes. This course is a fascinating exploration of the human mind and the many complex processes that underlie our perceptions, behaviors, and experiences.



Module: CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
The following topics will be addressed: Psychology and clinical psychology. The evidence-based approach to clinical psychology. The continuum between psychology and psychopathology. Current paradigms of psychopathology. Assessment and diagnosis. Definition and classification of mental disorders. Food, mind and brain. Eating Disorders: diagnostic criteria, clinical features, epidemiology, etiology with particular reference to the bio-psycho-social model. Notes on prevention and treatment.


Module: PSYCHIATRY
Epidemiology of Eating disorders. Main clinical manifestations: anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating and more and others EDS. Categorical and dimensional approaches. Pharmacologic treatment and psychotherapy. Others main mental disorders (psychosis, affective disorders, personality disorders).
