After completion of the course, students will have acquired knowledge on the pathohysiology and clinical features of the main medical emergencies, and they will be able to recognize their symptoms and signs. Also, students will be able to implement the immediate actions to activate the emergency network, and the manual procedures to support patients while medical support is on its way.

The ability to acquire the main principles of first aid remains an essential goal for all healthcare professionals and will be one of the objectives of this course.

Basic knowledge of anatomy and human physio-pathology is essential.

- methods of approach and first treatment of the critical surgical patient.

- emergency medicine and concepts relating to the importance of early intervention, with particular attention to the assessment of vital parameters, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS - basic life support),

The student must acquire the principles of first aid for the main internal diseases reported below:

1) Principles of eco-fast in the critically ill patient
2) Diagnosis and treatment of venous thrombo-embolism
3) Hypertensive emergencies
4) Sepsis and septic shock
5) Acute respiratory failure
6) Major arrhythmias in the critically ill patient
7) Vascular and cardiovascular emergencies and emergencies
8) Main clinical pictures of acute intoxication
9) Ultrasound-guided venous access
10) Strokes

The course will take place in the classroom, in person, with lectures and with the presentation of clinical cases.

Attendance at lessons is mandatory. The presence is detected by affixing the signature to a dedicated form, dated and referring to the specific lesson of the day.

Learning the course content will be verified by means of a written test and an oral test.

A patient with shortness of breath, a sore and hot swollen leg that arises after trauma may be instructed to perform in the emergency room:
1) Venous ultrasound of the lower extremities and chest tomography
