Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be expected to know:

the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying adverse food reactions, food carcinogenesis, the pathophysiology of nutrition, metabolic syndrome, and atherosclerosis;
the criteria for the prevention of diseases related to dietary habits;
the criteria for defining dietary regimens for metabolic disorders, including obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, hyperuricemia, arterial hypertension, osteoporosis, and oral diseases.

Prerequisites

Students must have a basic knowledge of physiology, general pathology, and nutrition.

Programme

Module: GENERAL PATHOLOGY Basics of Immunology, Adverse Reactions to Food (food allergies, intolerances, celiac disease) , Carcinogenesis, Food Carcinogenesis, Pathophysiology of Nutrition (effects of alcohol, anorexia, vitamin deficiencies, obesity), Pathophysiological Aspects of Diabetic Syndrome , Dyslipidemia and Atherosclerosis
At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the pathophysiological and molecular mechanisms underlying nutrition-related diseases.

Module: DIETETIC SCIENCES APPLIED TO THE PREVENTION OF DISEASES RELATED TO DIETARY HABITS This module will focus on diseases related to dietary habits, including: - obesity - diabetes mellitus - arterial hypertension - dyslipidemia - metabolic syndrome - oral diseases - osteoporosis
At the end of the course, students will know their epidemiological relevance and will be able to understand their biochemical and pathophysiological mechanisms, with particular attention to preventive measures for the multidisciplinary management of patients affected by these conditions.

Module: DIETETIC SCIENCES APPLIED TO THE ASSESSMENT OF DIETARY ADEQUACY This module will focus on diseases related to dietary habits, including: - obesity - diabetes mellitus - arterial hypertension - dyslipidemia - metabolic syndrome - oral diseases - osteoporosis
At the end of the course, students will know their epidemiological relevance and will be able to understand their biochemical and pathophysiological mechanisms, with particular attention to the principles of diet therapy for the multidisciplinary management of patients affected by these conditions.
