Use statistical tools and data for descriptive analysis of social and economic phenomena; Understand demographic changes and generational dynamics; Understand the interrelationships between demographic dynamics, the environment and economic development; Assess the role of migratory movements and their effects on the economies of countries of departure and arrival; Develop forecast scenarios.

Programme
Logic and techniques of demographic analysis. The Lexis diagram. The elimination table. Analysis of generational renewal and extinction. Population structure by sex and age. The age pyramid. The demographic balance. Demographic forecasts. The role of migratory movements. Interrelationships between population dynamics and the economy. Economic impact of migration in countries of departure and arrival.

Lessons mode
The course includes lectures to transfer the main contents of the course and seminars with external witnesses to stimulate a more focused reflection on specific socio-demographic issues. An intense practical activity is foreseen, also with the aid of IT tools, for learning statistical and demographic analysis techniques and for navigating between data sources.
Frequency
There is no obligation to attend, but participation in the statistical-demographic laboratory activities is strongly recommended
Exam mode
The exam takes place in written form and consists of two parts:
1) exercises aimed at evaluating the skills acquired in the acquisition and processing of statistical and demographic data
2) Answers and short comments to 3 questions, aimed at assessing the level of learning and in-depth analysis of the issues addressed during the course
