Learning outcomes

The course aims to illustrate and transfer the theoretical-conceptual foundations and methodological-applicative settings in the field of financial analysis in order to support a company’s decision-making processes. Students will acquire knowledge regarding business decision-making, interpretation of financial statements, and evaluation of financial, economic, and equity results. Students will also acquire the fundamentals of business valuation.
The teaching is intended to allow the student to achieve at least the following expected outcomes:
-Acquired knowledge and understanding: The student who successfully completes the final exam will have adequate knowledge of the decision-making process within entrepreneurial organizations and the analysis of financial, economic, and equity results, using both accounting data and information from financial markets. In particular, they will be familiar with different types of financial statements and master the methods of reclassifying the balance sheet and income statement, as well as determining cash flow and calculating margins, ratios, and cash flows.
- Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: The student who passes the final exam will possess the practical ability to interpret company results and compare the performance of different businesses.
- Autonomy of judgment: Critical thinking and judgment skills will be acquired by applying essential financial analysis tools.
- Communication skills: Through lectures and classroom discussions, students will be able to present the process of analyzing company results to support business decisions, critically assessing different interpretative aspects of overall company performance.
- Learning ability: Through class attendance, interaction with the professor during student consultations, personal study, and the final exam, students will develop the ability to continue their studies independently.

Prerequisites

Previous knowledge:
1) the firm as an economic institute;
2) the enterprise in its most general economic features;
3) basic accounting;
4) basic corporate finance.

Exam mode

The final exam is oral, and includes 5 questions:
- the first one is general/introductory;
- the second and third ones are theoretical and related the to key definitions included in the course program;
- the fourth and fifth ones are applications related to models, functions and ratios included in the course program.
Each question is worth 6 points out of 30, for an overall maximum of 30 points out of 30.
The exam aims to verify the knowledge arguments discussed during the course, as well as analytical and argumentative skills.
The student must demonstrate the ability to apply the acquired knowledge and a good ability of making connections among topics. Laude is for brilliant students, capable of making connections among topics, showing critical thinking and proposing personal considerations, also connected to current economic events.
