Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student must have acquired a series of knowledge and skills that are useful for knowing how to manage infectious diseases and pathologies linked to the reproductive aspects, related to the sexual health.
Regarding each infectious disease, the student must know the epidemiology, the social weight, the etiological, diagnostic and clinical aspects. He must know the therapeutic and preventive tools for infections. He must know the basic principles of communication and psychology.
He must be able to carry out a correct anamnesis in order to identify important elements in the context of risk factors related to lifestyle behaviors and habits.
He must be able to perform the physical examination by looking for possible signs related to the reported symptoms
He must be able to choose between laboratory and instrumental tests those related to the suspected pathology
Must be able to formulate the diagnostic hypothesis with differential diagnoses
He must know how to choose the correct therapeutic process
He must be able to relate to the patient following the basics of communication, considering the social and psychological context, respecting privacy, without ever expressing a judgment on the life of the patient and her/his family or social group.

Prerequisites

The student must have a good knowledge of microbiology (bacteriology, virology and parasitology) with particular regard to diagnostic techniques, immunology, integrated pathology III and integrated pathology IV. For the part of reproductive pathology he must know the pathological bases and physiology of endocrinology.

Fisiopatologia della riproduzione e della gametogenesi maschile. Disordini dello sviluppo puberale maschile. Valutazione diagnostica dell'infertilità maschile e di coppia: esame obiettivo, indagini di laboratorio, test di secondo livello e tecniche di imaging. Disfunzioni sessuali maschili. Ipogonadismi maschili. Infertilità maschile (cause ed inquadramento diagnostico). Strategie di prevenzione e conservazione dei potenziali riproduttivi maschili. Tumori testicolari. Varicocele. Tecnologie riproduttive assistite. Questione etica, demografica e sociale nella medicina riproduttiva. Trattamento medico dei disturbi riproduttivi maschili. Trattamento medico nelle disfunzioni sessuali maschili.
Pathophysiology of reproduction and male gametogenesis. Disorders of male pubertal development. Diagnostic evaluation of male and couple infertility: physical examination, laboratory investigations, second-level tests, and imaging techniques. Male sexual dysfunctions. Male hypogonadism. Male infertility (causes and diagnostic framework). Strategies for the prevention and preservation of male reproductive potential. Testicular tumors. Varicocele. Assisted reproductive technologies. Ethical, demographic, and social issues in reproductive medicine. Medical treatment of male reproductive disorders. Medical treatment of male sexual dysfunctions.
The course will focus on endocrine pathophysiology and the physiology of reproduction, addressing the various causes of infertility. In addition, HPV infections, tuberculosis, and infections during pregnancy will be covered.

Lessons mode

The course is divided into lectures, interactive lessons with clinical cases and practical activities in the ward.
The teacher delivers frontal teaching in the traditional way, with audiovisual aids and with lesson scheduling as reported on the GOMP Classroom/Timetable System and published on the website of the CdS. Lectures usually begin with an exemplifying clinical case.
The professionalizing activities planned for this integrated course are carried out in small groups at the wards of the hospitals affiliated with the CdS/the simulation laboratory of the CdS/the teaching laboratories following the scheduled rotations as reported on the Classrooms/Timetables System of the GOMP and published on the website of the CdS.

Frequency

Pursuant to the Teaching Regulations of the Degree Course, the student is required to attend the teaching and professionalizing activities of the Degree Course. Attendance is verified by the teachers using signature/appeal sheets, on updated lists provided by the Academic Secretariat as established by the CCL. The certificate of attendance at the compulsory teaching activities of a course is necessary for the student to take the relevant exam.
The performance of the internships and the acquisition of the skills required for the integrated course are tracked and certified in the "Booklet of Professional Activities of the Degree Course".

Exam mode

This course includes only an oral exam that contains, for infectious diseases, a practical test of management of a simulated clinical case.
To pass the exam, a grade of not less than 18/30 must be achieved in each module.
To achieve a score of 30/30 laude, the student must instead demonstrate that he has acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.
The dates of the exams (eight sessions) are published on the website of the Course in the relevant section.
The achievement of the skills required for the integrated course are also assessed through a pathetic test integrated into the exam.
