Objectives
Main teaching objectives:
The student should be able to address the infectious and reproductive medicine issues by a reasoned and deductive approach. Moreover, the continuous updates of these topics require a thorough knowledge of the epidemiological aspects that underlie the preventive therapeutic strategies.

At the end of the course, the student must have acquired a series of knowledge and skills that are useful for knowing how to manage infectious diseases and pathologies related to reproductive aspects related to sexual health.
The student of an infectious disease must know the epidemiology, the social weight, the etiological, diagnostic and clinical aspects. He must know the therapeutic and preventive tools for infections. He must know the basic principles of communication and psychology.
He must be able to carry out a correct anamnesis in order to identify important elements in the context of risk factors related to lifestyle behaviors and habits.
He must be able to perform the physical examination by looking for possible signs related to the reported symptoms
He must be able to choose between laboratory and instrumental tests those related to the suspected pathology
Must be able to formulate the diagnostic hypothesis with differential diagnoses
He must know how to choose the correct therapeutic process
He must be able to relate to the patient following the basics of communication, considering the social and psychological context, respecting privacy, without ever expressing a judgment on the life of the patient and her/his family or social group.
Prerequisites
The student must have a good knowledge of the notions of microbiology (bacteriology, virology and parasitology) with particular regard to diagnostic techniques, immunology, integrated pathology III and integrated pathology IV. For the part of reproductive pathology he must know the pathological bases and physiology of endocrinology.
Programme
Contents:
The course will focus on infectious diseases and reproductive diseases. The methodological approach will be very practical and interactive. General concepts in infectious diseases will be analyzed with practical examples with a roundup of recent iconography from personal clinical practice. The problems related to the
HIV infection: epidemiology, diagnosis, clinical aspects, therapeutic approach and prevention.
Viral hepatitis and hepatic apes, meningitis and encephalitis will be treated with particular attention to diagnosis, nosocomial infections and the onset of multidrug resistant (MDR) germs.
One lesson will concern respiratory infections and another tuberculosis with epidemiological and social and management aspects. Another lesson will concern Herpes virus infections: CMV, EBV, VZV, HSV 1/2, another parasitic diseases (malaria, amoebiasis, leishmaniasis) and emerging arboviruses (dengue, chikungunya, zika, west nile) with particular reference to the autochthonous epidemics of recent years. The concept of one-health and a global approach will be developed. Other lessons will cover sexually transmitted infections, skin and soft tissue infections, exanthematous diseases and endocarditis. Sepsis and septic shock following the Sepsis Campaign. Osteoarticular infections with interactive clinical cases. Infectious diseases in pregnancy. A lesson will be about the
use of antibiotics, the principles of antibiotic stewardship and infection control and the syndromic approach to infectious diseases.
Physiopathology of female reproduction and gametogenesis. Disorders of female pubertal development. Diagnostic evaluation of female and couple infertility: clinical examination, laboratory investigations, second level tests and imaging techniques. Female sexual dysfunctions. Assisted reproductive technologies. Prevention and conservation strategies for female reproductive potentials. Ethical, demographic and social issue in reproductive medicine.

Lessons mode
The course is divided into lectures, interactive lessons with clinical cases and practical activities in the ward.
The teacher delivers frontal teaching in the traditional way, with audiovisual aids and with lesson scheduling as reported on the GOMP Classroom/Timetable System and published on the website of the CdS. Lectures usually begin with an exemplifying clinical case.
The professionalizing activities planned for this integrated course are carried out in small groups at the wards of the hospitals affiliated with the CdS/the simulation laboratory of the CdS/the teaching laboratories following the scheduled rotations as reported on the Classrooms/Timetables System of the GOMP and published on the website of the CdS.
Frequency
Pursuant to the Teaching Regulations of the Degree Course, the student is required to attend the teaching and professionalizing activities of the Degree Course. Attendance is verified by the teachers using signature/appeal sheets, on updated lists provided by the Academic Secretariat as established by the CCL. The certificate of attendance at the compulsory teaching activities of a course is necessary for the student to take the relevant exam.
The performance of the internships and the acquisition of the skills required for the integrated course are tracked and certified in the "Booklet of Professional Activities of the Degree Course".
Exam mode
This course includes a written exam for the module of Reproductive Medicine and an oral exam for the module of Infectious Diseases, which determine the eligibility to take the final exam.
To pass the exam, a grade of not less than 18/30 must be achieved in each module.
To achieve a score of 30/30 laude, the student must instead demonstrate that he has acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way.
The dates of the exams (eight sessions) are published on the website of the Course in the relevant section.
The achievement of the skills required for the integrated course are also assessed through a pathetic test integrated into the exam.
The written test will consist of an exemption performed at the end of the course, containing 30 multiple-choice questions associated with a clinical case with three open questions in the field of reproductive medicine. If the exemption is not passed, an oral exam is scheduled during one of the sessions. The oral test of infectious diseases will begin with a clinical case that will have to be analyzed for the diagnostic aspects by formulating diagnostic hypotheses and differential diagnosis and for the management and therapeutic aspects. The different topics will then be requested, trying to address epidemiological, pathogenetic and clinical aspects. For each infection, the setting regarding the prevention aspects will also be required, including possible vaccines or pre-exposure prophylaxis and prevention bundles including the infectious disease notification tool.
