Objectives
The course offers a view of medicinal plants and substances contained, and pharmaceutical products derived. The final goal is to study the Botanicals, the lines of production of the species of concern, their preparations, the quality control proofs, the transformation procedures.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is the acquisition of information and basic knowledge for the student's job placement within the production chain of herbal products, with particular emphasis on production and regulatory aspects.
Prerequisites
The student must have adequate knowledge of secondary metabolism of plants and pharmaceutical botany.

Introduction, European and Italian legislation for medicinal plants, European and Italian bodies for the registration of herbal products, Review of notions of botany, Review of notions of secondary metabolism, Analysis of a production chain of medicinal plants, Agricultural production protocols, Production of essential oils, transformation processes, quality control, use of products of natural origin, examples of medicinal plants widespread in Italy.
