Objectives

The course is aimed at the creation of a knowledge-base, in the student, on the main processing technologies, typical of metallic materials, in use or expected to be adopted in the anufacturing industry. This course aims also at provide some case studies of typical industrial applications which analyze specific technological aspects and limitations in order to give a technical-practical qualification to the student and solid knowledge of tools that will enable him to understand technological problems, to work by making innovations and structuring its actions in a logical way, developing capacity also
strongly requested by companies.

Learning outcomes

Evaluate and compare the performance of different manufacturing technologies, applying them also to new cases or to situations not directly addressed during the course (Independent judgment).

Critically analyze manufacturing processes, identifying their specific features, limitations, and opportunities for improvement.

Communicate clearly and effectively one's analyses, proposals, and conclusions regarding technological issues and the performance of manufacturing processes (Communication skills).

Lessons mode

The course, for a total of 9 ECTS credits, includes:

72 hours of lectures, dedicated to the theoretical presentation of manufacturing processes.

18 hours of practical exercises aimed at consolidating the learning of these processes.

Frequency

Strongly recommended

Exam mode

The overcoming of an oral exam is required on the topics of the course lasting 30-45 minutes and the delivery of a project that deals with the reinguishering of an artifact to be carried out with exclusive or prevalent use of laser technoclogy

Example exam questions

It will be required, for example, to evaluate and compare the performance of two different manufacturing technologies applicable to a specific component in the manufacturing sector, justifying the choice based on the provided operating conditions.

It will also be required, for example, to critically analyze a given manufacturing process, identifying its main specific features, limitations, and potential areas for improvement.
