The course aims to provide knowledge and understanding of the methodological, critical and applicable aspects of the Discipline; it proposes geographical areas and sectorial perspectives in which related projects are activated; it shows the variability of fields of interest; it enables the student to master the specific topics in order to use them and apply them in other fields of study while using the correct specific language. With the acquired knowledge the student will be able to develop autonomous ability of connections with other disciplines in the various historical epochs and cultural contexts.

Good knowledge of Latin literary history from its origins to the end of the 2nd century AD; advanced knowledge of the Latin language; ability to read, translate and interpret a Latin text from a linguistic, literary and philological point of view.

Good command of Latin morphology and syntax; metrical reading of the Latin hexameter.

Reading, translation, and linguistic and philological analysis of Quintilian, Institutio oratoria, book 10; study of the history of Latin literature from the beginnings to the end of 2nd century AD (last authors to be studied: Fronto, Gellius, Apuleius).

Oral exams consist of:
- reading, translation, and analysis of one or more passages of the Latin texts included in the programme;
- questions about Latin morphology and syntax;
- questions about the history of the Latin literature.
Metrical reading is required for poems.
