In consistency with the educational purposes of the whole teaching course, aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of
ANTIQUITY AND ROMAN INSTITUTIONS ADVANCED I, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way.

Competence on the basic tools for research in the field of latin epigraphy and Roman institutions and knowledge of the main fields of research with deepening of methodological skills.

Acquisition of advanced skills about the institutions of the Roman age and the metodologies of interpretation of ancient documentary sources (literary, archaeological, epigraphic). Gradual development of a critical approach to data obtained from primary sources and modern literature. Clarity in exposition and appropriate use of the specific vocabulary of the discipline. Autonomy in the study.

Good knowledge of Latin launguage and Roman hostory

Aspects of Roman public and private life. Men and Women in front of the death. Men and Women in front of the gods. The lessons, of a seminar type and with the formation of study groups, will be integrated with visits to the epigraphic collections of the Museo Nazionale Romano alle Terme di Diocleziano and the Antiquarium Comunale del Celio.

Seminar lessons with study groups formed by the students. Periodic reports from students on research progress. Visits to the epigraphic collection at the Museo Nazionale Romano - Terme di Diocleziano and the Antiquarium Comunale del Celio.

Due to the seminar nature of the module, attendance is recommended. Non-attending students will base their preparation on the textbooks indicated only.

Oral exam on books and discussion of the written results of the epigraphic seminar; verification of the acquisition of expected learning oucomes.
To pass the exam students must get a grade of not below than 18/30; students must demonstrate to have acquired a sufficient command of course topic. In order to achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, students must demonstrate excellent knowledge of all course topics, and to be able to connect them in a logical and consistent way.

Discussion of the written papers presented by the students during the lessons. Oral questions on the specific topics of the textbooks
