Objectives

The specific aim is to enable the student to assist him with the more specific knowledge for inclusion in the future world of work.

Learning outcomes

The laboratory activities are designed to introduce students to the main methodologies used in the study of animal remains from archaeological excavations. Particular attention is given to the cleaning and conservation of faunal remains, taxonomic analysis and cataloguing, including the identification of species, anatomical element, sex, and age at death. Activities also include the recording of osteometric data and the recognition of taphonomic traces (e.g., butchery marks, burning, gnawing, pathologies)

Prerequisites

It is recommended to have attended one of the following courses:
