Cultural Heritage in the Near and Middle East, and in Africa

Urbanism and nomadism between South-Eastern Arabia and North-Western Syria from the end of 4th to the end 1st Millennium BCE The course aims to recognize and to map the spatial patterns of settlements and mobility that took place in the lands of Magan, Dilmun, Sumer, Akkad and Ebla from the end of 4th millennium BC to the end 1st Millennium BC. In this specific sense the course will ‘cross’ Eurasia, connecting the great civilizations that arose along the shores of the Arabian / Persian Gulf with those that formed along the coasts of the north-eastern Mediterranean. The cultural, political and economical relations between the south-eastern Arabian Peninsula and north-western Syria will be presented and discussed integrating the analysis of the major archaeological contexts at the western border of Asia with visual and textual documents.
