Objectives

The teaching of Dante Philology aims to transmit to the student the knowledge of the life and works of Dante Alighieri from the historical, textual and historical-linguistic point of view and to discuss the main problems relating to the edition of texts, to research sources and commentary.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide students with specialist knowledge on the reworkings of Dante Alighieri's work, from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, through the analysis of some particularly significant examples in the main literary genres (the Middle English poem "Pearl", the novel "Les Proscrits" by Honoré de Balzac and Gabriele D'Annunzio's tragedy "Francesca da Rimini").

Prerequisites

An excellent knowledge of the life and works of Dante Alighieri is assumed.
