Chair (Coordinator) and Rapporteur: ROBERTO DE GAETANO

Lecturers

Objectives

The course aims to introduce students to the theory and practice of film criticism, considered as fundamental moments in the construction of the meaning of the film. At the end of the course, students will learn, in addition to knowledge of what criticism is in general, and film criticism in particular, also to critically interpret films and authors.

Programme

Forms of the Novelistic: Contemporary Italian Cinema.

The course will examine the relationship between cinema and critical writing. It will be structured in two parts: the first will analyze the specific nature of critical discourse—situated between the singularity of the work and the creation of general interpretive categories, with Walter Benjamin serving as a key theoretical reference—while the second will explore examples of contemporary Italian cinema through the lens of the "novelistic" category.
