A) Acquisition of a solid work methodology (critical analysis of current bibliographies, ability to work directly on literary texts, case studies) in relation to most recent research directions.
B) Knowledge of canonical and non-canonical stages of literary history, of the keygenres in a culture/tradition, of fundamental issues of the period(s) in exam.

At the end of the course the student will have to demonstrate:
- knowledge and understanding skills, that is to have a general knowledge of the Romanian historical, cultural and literary heritage of the 20th century;
- ability to apply knowledge and understanding, that is to be able to read and comment critically literary texts belonging to that heritage.
- communication skills, i.e. being able to express oneself in a language appropriate to the topic and context, using the terminology introduced, explained and used in the course of the lessons.

Having acquired level B1 in Romanian

The course consists of two parts:
Module A: Animals in modern and contemporary Romanian literature. The aim of the module is to retrace Romanian cultural and literary history from the period of modernisation (19th century) to the contemporary era, focusing on the representation of animals in different literary genres. Particular attention will be paid to examining the stylistic and formal characteristics of the literary representation of specific species, highlighting their adaptations to the historical and cultural context and target audience.
The course will be supplemented by a Literary Translation Workshop (module B), which will focus on the collaborative reading and translation of excerpts from the collections of Gellu Naum and Florin Bican dedicated to the adventures of Apolodor.

The course takes place over two semesters, in traditional mode (Module A, lectures, first semester) and seminar mode (Literary Translation Workshop, second semester). Lectures will include a brief presentation of the topic covered, followed by reading and commentary on the texts included in the exam programme. The translation workshop will take place in seminar form with the active participation of students.

Attendance is not compulsory. The syllabus and exam format are the same for attending and non-attending students. Non-attending students may agree on an individual plan.

Module A: includes an oral exam aimed at assessing the student's ability to present the topics covered in class, supplemented by the supporting bibliography;
Module B: includes a written translation test that will be assessed and discussed during the oral exam.
The oral and written exams take place at the end of the two semesters. The final mark, out of thirty, will be recorded on the INFOSTUD platform.
