The course aims to provide students with theoretical and practical tools for understanding and designing forms of intermedial writing applied to the performing arts.
Starting from an analysis of contemporary stage languages and Italian post-avant-garde experiments, students will be guided towards the creation of an intermedial adaptation project that integrates theatrical, audiovisual and digital elements. The course opens with a module dedicated to interactive storytelling and new media, in which the theories and practices of storytelling are explored in depth, from hypertexts to Artificial Intelligence, with particular attention to digital languages and their applications in stage writing. The second module addresses the theme of writing for the contemporary stage, with particular attention to the construction of dramaturgy, characters, dialogue and the organisation of stage space. This is followed by a module dedicated to Fabrizia Ramondino's theatre work, with a meeting with screenwriter Ippolita Di Majo, and to avant-garde theatre and the Falso Movimento group, which offers an analysis of Mario Martone's artistic context and poetics during his years of experimentation with theatre, video and visual arts. The course concludes with an intermedia adaptation workshop, in which students will develop a project of intermedia rewriting or reinterpretation inspired by a Falso Movimento show, chosen from the texts in the programme “Ritratto del regista da giovane” and “Fabrizia Ramondino Teatro”. The work will be presented and discussed collectively in the final phase of the course.
