Objectives
The course, structured teaching methodology focused on problems (problem-based learning and problem solving), is organized in multidisciplinary clinical seminars focused processing with diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm students clinical situations emblematic treated in parallel in the courses of Integrated various disorders.
The purpose of the course is to make the student able to critically evaluate, through a correct clinical reasoning, clinical signs and symptoms correlating the pathogenesis of diseases of the main object of teaching Integrated Pathology. The student must acquire the ability to establish a differential diagnosis and to build a diagnostic and treatment algorithm necessary for the resolution of a particular clinical picture.
The ultimate goal of the course is to enable students to acquire the behavior protocols that introduce the practice of medicine and accompany him in his future career. The student must also know the elements lexical and grammatical and syntactical base of the tongue in scientific medical texts; able to recognize and apply this knowledge to the critical reading of various types of paper from the medical literature, also of historical type and bioethics, with a focus on "Evidence Based Medicine"; apply the methods "self study" the most effective to develop and consolidate their lexical and grammatical knowledge in the medical field and to monitor progress; applying reading techniques that will lead to an efficient speed in the information decoding; learn literature search methods to formulate relevant questions to studies and seek answers through the use of Medline and the Internet; be aware of the essential role of literature cultural and professional updating of the physician; be aware of the importance of developing "reading habits" in permanent training.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the Integrated Course, the student will be able to develop a problem-oriented clinical reasoning by applying the principles of evidence-based medicine, also with regard to social and gender impacts. Through interactive teaching methods, the student will acquire the soft skills necessary for a multidisciplinary clinical approach and the need for continuous learning.
Prerequisites
Essential prerequisites for comprehension of and participatory attendance to the problem-solving interdisciplinary seminars discuss during the Course, are an adequate knowledge of the topics covered in the Courses of: Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology and General Physiopathology, Laboratory Medicine, Clinical Medical-Scientific Methodology (II-III), Semeiotics and Clinical Methodology.

Lessons mode
Problem-solving teaching: Interactive clinical case resolution
Frequency
Frequency is mandatory. The student must attend to at least 67% of the lessons of the Course to be admitted to the exam.
Exam mode
The Integrated Medical Scientific Methodology I exam includes 15 multiple choice quizzes, worth 2 points each, plus a group discussion of a clinical case in English constructed according to Evidence-Based Medicine.
The Integrated Medical Scientific Methodology II exam includes 30 multiple choice quizzes (4 answers of which only 1 is correct, 40 minutes). Questions will deal with the clinical cases discuss during the Methodology Course, the methodological aspects of the topics treated by the same teachers during the Integrated Pathology III Course and the Seminars of the English Course. The final mark will be calculated on the basis of the percentage of correct answers given by the student (i.e. 50%: mark 18;> 90%: mark 30 and honors)
Example exam questions
Esempio (INGLESE-MMSI2)
What type of RNA modification is carried out by ADAR enzymes?
a) A-to-I (Adenosine to Inosine) Editing
b) Methylation of cytosines
c) Deletion of intronic sequences
d) Polyadenylation?
Arguments
- Due to the prerequisites and topic integration between Integrated Pathology and the Methodology clinical cases, the clinical case schedule will be finalized at the start of the semester.
