The main purpose of the course is to provide the student with the fundamental knowledge to be able to perform the clinical classification and differential diagnosis and to formulate the therapy of the most common pathologies of Internal Medicine and General Surgery, with particular attention to those most typical of the elderly patient. This knowledge must also include those necessary to be able to conduct the multidimensional assessment of the elderly patient and to evaluate the risks of the different treatments in elderly patients suffering from multiple pathologies. The course will integrate to the frontal lessons, professionalizing activities in the ward or in the clinic that must be considered as indispensable for the achievement of the objectives of the course itself.

Internal Medicine:
Primary and secondary cardiovascular prevention; obesity; eating disorders; type 2 diabetes; heart failure; atrial fibrillation; pulmonary embolism; essential hypertension; resistant, renovascular, and adrenal hypertension; liver cirrhosis; rheumatoid arthritis; systemic lupus erythematosus.
The general practitioner’s perspective on the prevention of non-communicable diseases, prescription practices, and the use of medical prescription forms.

General Surgery:
Primary liver tumors; hepatic metastases; liver cirrhosis; cholelithiasis – complications and surgical treatment; gastric carcinoma; pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors; colonic diverticulosis – complications and surgical indications; adrenal pathologies of surgical interest; intestinal obstructions; hernia diseases; introduction to trauma management.

Pharmacology:
Acute intoxication from alcohol and opioids; treatment of multiple sclerosis; neuropathic pain management.
