Objectives

By the end of the course students should
• know the most common following diseases: otorhynolangoiatric, odontostomatological, maxilla-facial and of the visual appa-ratus, and their main therapeutic course.
• be able to reach a diagnosis of the most frequent ocular, otorhynolangoiatric, odontoiatric and maxilla-facial diseases.
• be aware of which pathologies can be dealt with by a non-specialist doctor and which pathologies require specialist care.

Learning outcomes

at the end of the course of lessons the student must be able to have basic knowledge on eye diseases and on the main therapies needed, with particular reference to the main diseases with systemic implications such as diabetes, hypertension, glaucoma etc.

In order to understand the contents of the course and achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the teaching activities provided by the teaching module the student must possess the knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology

Lessons mode

Attendance at the designated classroom at the times provided for in the didactic calendar with experts in the issues dealt with in each lesson.

Frequency

compulsory attendance for 75% of the lessons

Exam mode

This course includes an oral exam that determines the suitability to support the other teaching modules provided by the integrated course sense organs that will be obtained by the student with a grade of not less than 18/30.To pass the exam it is necessary to obtain a grade of not less than 18/30 in each module. The student must demonstrate that he has acquired a sufficient knowledge of the topics as indicated below, a basic knowledge of the topics of anatomy and to be able to recognize an ocular pathology. To achieve a score of 30/30 laude, the student must instead demonstrate that he has acquired an excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way. The dates of the exams (eight appeals) are published on the CdS website in the relevant section.
Oral exam with one or two questions on the topics on the program, starting from a general ophthalmological view on the following main points:
1. Ethiopathogenesis of the problem,
2. symptoms presented by the patient,
3. clinical evaluation of the ophthalmologist,
4. Instrumental examinations to be requested,
5. therapeutic treatment (medical / surgical).

Arguments

  • Emergencies in Maxillo-facial surgery: management and control of bleeding of the maxillo-facial district, anterior and posterior nasal packing, external carotid artery ligation, emergency tracheostomy and management of the patient

  • Maxillo-Facial Trauma: maxillo-facial fractures, classification of fractures according to Le Fort Stage, cheekbone fractures, nasal fractures, frontal bone fractures, mandibular fractures, panfacial fractures, complex fractures of the Maxillo-Facial district, diagnosis and principles of treatment.

  • Maxillo-mandibular malformations: type of occlusione, progenic syndrome, Prognatic syndrome, mandibular lateral deviations

  • Salivary gland disorders: anatomy and physiology of the salivary glands, major inflammatory pathologies, sialolithiasis, sialadenitis, benign and malignant salivary gland tumors

  • Oral and Maxillo-Facial Oncology: pathogenesis, Classification of Tumours, diagnosis and priciples of therapy of oral and maxillofacial tumors, diagnosis and staging of maxillo-facial tumors, principles of reconstructive surgery.

  • Temporomandibular Joint disorders: Temporomandibular joint dysfunction, ankylosis, dislocation, limitations of mouth opening
