Educational goals: learning outcomes and competences to be acquired
The educational goal of the course of PRINCIPI DI ODONTOIATRIA can be summed up in understanding the concept of wellness and prevention and its application in Community Medicine and Dentistry.
At the end of the course students must have the theoretical knowledge, practical skills and clinical criteria in preventive and community dentistry, defined as "the science and art of preventing dental disease, promote oral health and improve the quality of life through joint efforts of society as a whole".
At the end of the course students must have the practical skills of correctly communicating with patients in medical history interview, performing a basic oral health examination, calculating the major oral health community indices, individual caries risk assessment.
The training sessions will be divided into a pre-clinical phase - with the aim of laying the foundations for a cultural learning process with prevention-oriented introduction to statistical and epidemiological methodology, instrumentation, materials and techniques with emphasis on preventive outpatient basis in the doctor-patient communication - and a clinical phase - with the issues of preventive and community dentistry integrated with specific expertise in the individual dental disciplines.

Educational Goals
The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles of well-being and prevention and their application in Community Medicine and Dentistry. Students will acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of preventive and community dentistry, understood as “the science and art of preventing dental diseases, promoting oral health, and improving the quality of life through the collective effort of society.” They will also learn the most important concepts and procedures of clinical and epidemiological study methodology.

Prerequisites
In order to understand the teaching contents and to achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the didactic activities the student must have the following knowledge: upper secondary school degree, knowledge and skills on basic sciences, biological, physical and biochemical properties.

Scientific articles related to topics included in the program will be recommended for integrative purposes to frontal lessons and adopted texts.

Methods of teaching (or a combination of several types chosen by the teacher):
1) Lectures
2) Workshops on epidemiological and preventive topics on oral diseases managed by the students in small groups with guided discussion
3) Workshops on clinical issues
4) Workshops on bibliographic review
5) Ambulatory training
6) E-learning and flipped classroom teaching.

Following the Regulations , the student is required to attend educational activities, formal, non-formal, vocational. The frequency is checked by the teachers through signature / updated lists provided by the Academic Office, as established by CCL. The certificate of mandatory attendance to the teaching course is required to the student to be admitted at the final test.

Learning assessment method (recommended method):
To pass the exam the student must obtain a grade of not less than 18/30 in each module. The student must demonstrate the acquisition of sufficient knowledge of the topics of Preventive and Community Dentistry, Dental Hygiene and Introductory Clinic, be familiar with the topics of Statistical and Epidemiological Methodology and being able to support an anamnestic interview and perform a basic oral health examination. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate the acquisition of excellent knowledge of all the topics exposed during the course, being able to link them in a logical and consistent way.

Learning assessment methods:
a) Ongoing evaluation during courses with documentation of at least one supervised experience
b) Evaluation of the workshops on epidemiological and preventive topics on oral diseases managed by the students in small groups with guided discussion
c) Final evaluation of the course based on procedures and criteria chosen by the teacher
(one or a combination of several types of assessment tests, including: oral presentation on a pre-selected topic, presentation and discussion of the internship experience, practical test, oral assessment on the program, etc.).
