Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the module, students will be able to: Knowledge Describe the main biological and pathophysiological processes underlying alterations in laboratory parameters. Know the fundamental methodologies and techniques of clinical laboratory diagnostics. Understand the principles of appropriateness in requesting and interpreting diagnostic tests. Know the criteria for evaluating the clinical effectiveness of laboratory tests and their impact on therapeutic outcomes. Skills Make a rational and appropriate selection of laboratory tests most relevant to the suspected diagnosis. Critically interpret laboratory test results in light of the patient's clinical and pathophysiological picture. Correlate laboratory data with pathological processes affecting organs, systems, and metabolic systems. Evaluate the quality and reliability of laboratory data in relation to the clinical context. Skills Apply an integrated clinical methodological approach to patient management, making rational use of laboratory diagnostics. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in defining diagnostic and therapeutic pathways based on laboratory evidence. Promote the appropriate and sustainable use of diagnostic resources to improve the effectiveness of care.
Prerequisites
student must have knowledge of cellular and molecular mechanisms of the diseases. Therefore it is strongly recommended to pass General Pathology, Immunology and Physiology exams, before taking Laboratory Medicine.

Lessons mode
To pass the exam student must obtain a grade ranging from 18 to 30 in each module, demonstrating that he has acquired sufficient knowledge of the topics of blood diseases, clinical pathology and internal medicine, a basic knowledge of the topics of general pathology and be able to read a laboratory report by knowing the reference values .To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must instead demonstrate that he has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to link them in a logical and consistent way, treating and placing the laboratory investigations in a contest of biological and pathophysiological processes concerning organs, apparatuses and metabolic systems.
Frequency
Attendance is mandatory, and students must have attended 70% of the lectures for each module to take the exam. The exam includes an oral exam that covers one or more topics from each module in detail. The slides shown during the lectures will be provided to students either in electronic format or as printed materials, allowing them to take notes. Helpful material for further study will also be recommended.
