The objective of the course is the strengthening of the theoretical fundamentals learned during the past years, to learn more knowledge and acquire abilities to solve more difficult clinical problems, increasing the competences of the past years.
The aim is to introduce the student to the professional activities, creating the fundamentals for the future dentists.
The course starts with a deepen knowledge of the diagnostic, clinical and therapeutic approach guidelines and the aim is to define clear therapeutic proposals, based on scientific elements for all the disciplines of the course and on specific subject from the pediatric age to the adult.
The purpose of the course is to prepare the student to solve the oral diseases, not only due to his awareness, but also to share with the patient all the therapeutic goals. In this way the patient can strengthen his trust towards the dentist on his choice and the application of the exact diagnostic and therapeutic devices.
The aim of the didactic and clinical activities is to looking for the attention of the diagnosis, to draft an appropriate treatment plan, a correct execution of the therapies, an effective information and above all a primary and a secondary prevention (in order to avoid habitual or new diseases) for the quality and safety of the cure.
The lessons are finalized to the debate of multidisciplinary clinical cases.

In order to achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the didactic activities , the student must have knowledge of the biomedical, technical and clinical sciences basis to understand the normal and pathological conditions relevant for dentistry and must have an understanding ability of this information importance in clinical-professional situations (knowledge and understanding); must have gained knowledge of the bases for qualitative and quantitative understanding of biological, physiological and pathological phenomena for the purpose of maintaining oral health and apply this knowledge to dental therapies, also through the practical training provided in the context of professionalizing disciplines ( applying knowledge and understanding); must possess the ability to produce independent judgments starting from the interpretation of a database, arriving at coherent reflections on social, ethical and scientific issues (making judgments); must know how to communicate his conclusions as well as the knowledge and the rationale underlying them to specialist and non-specialist interlocutors and to manage relationships with colleagues, doctors and dentists, collaborators and patients (communication) skills); must have acquired the necessary skills to advance in studies with a high degree of autonomy (learning skills).

Preventive Dentistry and Community Dentistry . Determinants of Oral Health . Preventive strategies of the major oral diseases -. Individual risk assessment based on the different health determinants. Oral Health Related Quality of Life assessment. Detection and evaluation of the key clinical and epidemiological screening indices of dental and periodontal disease . Screening of the oral mucosa . Oral Health oriented multidisciplinary counselling ( anti-smoking counselling , nutritional counselling , etc.) . Tailoring in Oral Health prevention ( diagnosis, therapy, professional oral hygiene, instructions for personal oral hygiene, recall scheduling , etc.) for special needs patients (ie disability, comorbidity ) . Technologies and diagnostic aid for primary and secondary prevention of oral diseases and conditions . Clinical medico-legal assessment and reports of oral health status.
Upon completion of the course , the student must be able to properly perform specific qualifying activities [ Minimum Requirements].

The teacher provides the professionalizing teaching activity at the clinical department and through problem solving learning activity using Case-Based Learning technique

Following paragraph 4.5 of the Regulations of the Dental School, the student is required to attend educational activities, formal, non-formal, vocational. The frequency is checked by the teachers through signature / updated lists provided by the Academic Office, as established by CCLMOPD. The certificate of mandatory attendance to the teaching course is required to the student to be admitted at the final test.

the overall assessment consists of a written test common to all modules of the course, an oral test and a practical test
To pass the exam, students must obtain a mark of not less than 18/30. The student must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of multidisciplinary topics and be able to carry out a correct anamnesis and recognize the main clinical conditions in a complex case. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate that he has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and consistent way.
The evaluation methods are:
a) Ongoing evaluation during the internship with supervised documentation of at least one experience
b) Evaluation of clinical-practical seminars
c) Final evaluation of the course based on methods and criteria chosen by the teacher
