Course objectives

2 Obiettivi formativi . 2.1 Obiettivi generali
 This course aims at familiarizing the students with the themes and methods of developmental psychology, including its extensions to the life span. The course is organized by ages from infancy to old age. At the end of the course students will know the “normative frames” of development. Students will be able to identify theory in developmental psychology to be applied in social work. Students will learn theories and methods of developmental psychology through lessons, applicative aspects will be learned through discussions in class. 2.2 Obiettivi specifici 2.2.1 Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione (knowledge and understanding). Students will know normative frames related to cognitive, social and emotional development, and methods of developmental research. Students will learn life span concepts and developmental tasks from infancy to old age with a particular attention to mentalizing skills as a protective factor. 2.2.2 Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione (applyingknowledge and under-standing). At the end of the course students will be able to recognize normative frame, developmental tasks chal-lenges and resources in analyzing a “case”. 2.2.3 Autonomia di giudizio (makingjudgements). Class discussions will allow students to learn how to comment a case making reference to psychological theories and to contextualize the case in the environment. 2.2.4 Abilità comunicative (communicationskills). Trough discussions in class, students will learn how communicate using specific terminology of develop-mental psychology. Program - Frequency - Exams

Course program
First part of the course (48 hours) will be focused on normative frames (cognitive, emotional and social development) in infancy, early childhood and childhood. In this part of the course some hours could be spent in discussing cases. The second part of the course (24 hours) will be devoted to the age ranges from adolescence to old age, with reference to the life-course perspective. It will include a presentation of the developmental tasks characteristic of each stage and an in-depth examination of the role of mentalization abilities.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites because this is an introductive course.

Teaching mode
Lessons supported by power point slides to teach theories. Exercises about methods and other group ac-tivities and discussions to favour the ability to apply knowledge to practice.During classes, explanations will be alternated with moments in which students will be actively engaged in discussion through presentation and discussion of research manuscripts. A regular participation is suggested.

A regular participation is suggested.
Exam mode
Written test with multiple choice and open questions. Students are required to enrol on Infostud in order to be admitted to the exam. Students can obtain an evaluation of 30 points.
Lesson mode
Lessons supported by power point slides to teach theories. Exercises about methods and other group ac-tivities and discussions to favour the ability to apply knowledge to practice.During classes, explanations will be alternated with moments in which students will be actively engaged in discussion through presentation and discussion of research manuscripts.

Course program
First part of the course (48 hours) will be focused on normative frames (cognitive, emotional ad social de-velopment) in infancy, early childhood and childhood. In this part of the course 8/10 hours could be spend in discussing cases. First part of the course (24 hours) will be focused on adolescence, adulthood and old age, trought the ref-erence to the concept of life span, by presenting developmental tasks for each age by focusing on mentalizing skills.

There are no prerequisites because this is an introductive course.

A regular participation is required.
Exam mode
There will be six exams during the year. Students can obtain, for each of the two parts of the exam an evaluation of 30 points. Final evaluation is the mean of the evaluations obtained in the two parts.
