Objectives
The course aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the foundational concepts and tenets and the fundamental principles and institutes of Private Law.
The course will provide an overall analysis of the general theory and the essential branches of Private Law, highlighting the role of the EU in harmonizing Private Law.
Learning outcomes
The course aims to contribute to developing analytical and critical skills by continuously referencing doctrinal debate and Italian and European case law.
At the end of the course, students will be able to apply the knowledge acquired in managing and solving the vast variety of problems addressed by Private Law. They will be capable of adequately developing accurate analysis and critical arguments and handling the jurisprudence and doctrinal guidelines.

Programme
1) Exam program 9CFU
Analysis of the rules of Italian private law and explanation of its principal institutes.
The course covers the main private law institutes, and in particular, as an example:
- introductory notions ;
- law and families ;
- succession due to death;
- property law;
- obligations and contracts;
- civil liability;
- protection of rights.
2) Exam program 6 CFU:
The exam program does not include: law and families, trascrizione, mezzi di conservazione della garanzia patrimoniale e cause legittime di prelazione.
Books
1) Codice civile e leggi complementari, aggiornati all'anno in corso.
2) uno tra i manuali qui di seguito indicati:
- A. TORRENTE - P. SCHLESINGER, Manuale di diritto privato, Giuffrè, Milano, ultima edizione;
- V. ROPPO, Diritto privato. Linee essenziali, Giappichelli, Torino, ultima edizione.
E' suggerita la lettura del seguente libro:

Lessons mode
The teaching will be given through frontal teaching and seminars aimed at deepening individual topics of particular relevance and examining provisions rendered by national and European Courts.
Frequency
The course will be held in-person and class attendance will not be mandatory (although recommended). Supplementary seminars will be held online.
Exam mode
The exam consists of an individual oral interview.
The discussion assessment will consider the following: knowledge of institutional profiles, accuracy and completeness of the answering, ability to find connections between the different parts of the program, and ability to develop critical arguments.
The mid-term test will be available for students in written form. It will be 35 multiple-choice questions in 40 minutes.
