Laboratory analysis of imagination and storytelling
Course objectives
The main objective of the Workshop is to analyse the new narrative universes affected by the phenomenon of cultural and media convergence. In-depth theoretical knowledge will be complemented by practical skills related to the conception and realisation of different types of transmedia products. Through an interdisciplinary approach, which takes into account contributions from psychoanalysis, sociology and media studies, the course also aims to analyse how figures, archetypes, symbols and forms of the collective imagination play a fundamental role in the production of cultural content. 1. Knowledge and understanding. The workshop aims to enable students to acquire the necessary knowledge to understand the changes affecting contemporary creative industries, with a focus on increasingly complex and interconnected narrative forms; it also offers the appropriate tools for understanding how transmedia projects are conceived and disseminated, in the light of the innovations introduced by media convergence and participatory culture. 2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. The workshop offers the opportunity to acquire the appropriate skills for the design, management and realisation of creative content distributed on different media platforms. 3. During the lessons students are offered activities with the aim of developing critical skills for the analysis of transmedia products. Moments of confrontation and discussion in the classroom are also provided. 4. As part of the workshop, students are asked to present the work they have acquired through the use of multimedia supports (slides, videos, pitches) and to develop effective presentation skills. 5. The theoretical tools are geared towards the acquisition of a study and research method suitable for the analysis of transmedia content.
