The course aims to stress the usefulness of historical viewpoint in order to improve
abilities in analyzing and interpreting political phenomena, sharpening the tools fit to
criticize sources and recognize specific issues within current historiographical debate.
Autonomy of judgement: ability to interpret critically data and problems, which are typical
of the contemporary history and ability to reflect upon its main topics, formulating,
informed judgments. Communication skills: ability to communicate, using the
appropriate terminology, information and problems concerning the field of history to
specialist and non specialist audiences.

Knowledge of the dynamics and historical processes of modernity. The political dimension of religion, art and the fundamental novelty of the participation of women and men in the development of new forms of citizenship
By the end of the course, students will be able to:

* Understand the main historical processes that shaped modernity and the major revolutions from the eighteenth to the twentieth century.
* Analyze the causes, development, and consequences of major political, social, economic, and cultural revolutions.
* Interpret historical events and phenomena through a critical and comparative approach.
* Use appropriate historical terminology and disciplinary vocabulary.
* Analyze and critically evaluate primary and secondary historical sources.
* Develop well-structured written and oral arguments based on historical evidence.

La prima parte, basata su lezioni frontali, mira a ricostruire con taglio comparativo i
rapporti politici fra soggetti diversi nell'europa moderna la seconda parte, di carattere
seminariale, è dedicata alla conoscenza approfondita dei processi rivoluzionari in
europa e in america. Questa seconda parte prevede relazioni da parte delle
studentesse e degli studenti, tenute/i ad approfondire un aspetto specifico del tema
affrontato presentando una relazione basata sulla lettura di testi concordati con la
docente. I frequentanti si prepareranno sugli appunti del corso, sui materiali forniti a
lezione dalla docente e sui testi e fonti indicati per ogni partecipante in relazione
all’approfondimento scelto. gli studenti che non possono frequentare sono invitati a
contattare la docente all’inizio del corso per la definizione del programma d’esame e dei
testi.
