The course aims at providing the students with an advanced knowledge of fundamental rights, in order to understand the subject in its historical and thoretical perspective and to become familiar with the main issues concerning current subjects and with the demands for protection of new fundamental rights.

The students will be encouraged to develop critical capability. During the lesson, intervention, questions and debate will be encouraged. The students will specially have the opportunity to perform and discuss reports on national and supranational case-law concerning current issues of fundamental rights protection.

At the end of the course, the student shall have familiarity with the principal subjects concerning fundamental rights protection both at the national and supranational level. The student shall be able to face the issues concerning the historical and theoetical foundations of fundamental rights as well as the new demands for rights protection, with specific regards to the process of constitutionalization of new fundamental rights.

It is necessary to read the Constitution while studying the texts
The students are advised to review the parts of the manual of Institutions of Public Law concerning:
European Union
EU sources
ECHR
All fundamental rights
Constitutional Court
This recommendation is also important for those who did not study Istitutions of Public Law for their three-year degree

The teaching will consist of oral lessons. The subjects are usually current end interesting for the students. For this reason, dialogic interaction with the students is admitted.

Attending the lessons must be constant. The students who do not attend the lessons constantly will not have the right to do the intermediate test and cannot participate to the exercises concerning judiciary cases.

The oral exam is generally based on 3 questions about subjects of the course.
The students who have successfully passed the intermediate test (esonero scritto) will have 1-2 questions about the remaining part of the course.

The intermediate written test is not obligatory and will consist of 1-2 open questions on subjects of the course. Only the students who attend the lessons will have the right to do the intermediate test.

Exercises concerning the exposition of a judiciary case will be also be evaluated. The exercises are not obligatory.
