Course program
The course aims at illustrating the notions of the economics of the environment into a theoretical and empirical framework in order to provide students with some relevant tools for the analysis of the effects of the economic choices on the environment.
The course analyzes the notion of the environment as a public good; the problem of negative externalities; the market solution to the environmental externalities (Coase theorem); public intervention, Pigouvian taxation and regulation; the economic growth and international environmental problems; globalization and sustainability; the EU environmental policy.
Morever, students will be provided with
- rationale choice of consumption and production, under the assumption that products are differentiated along an environmental or ethical quality dimension;
- network effects and relative preferences (or other regarding preferences);
- green culture and consumption choice;
- public goods and the tragedy of the commons
- the environment as a public good: local, national, global
