COLUMBIA LAW SCHOOL

RESPONSIBLE: PROF. LAURA MOSCATI

The agreement with the Columbia Law School of New York, active since the academic year 2011-2012, allows annually some students of our Faculty, selected from those enrolled in the fourth or fifth year of study, to spend a semester at the American University to follow some courses, take exams and perform research activities.
Students must take part in the Fall Term courses (16 August - 23 December) and take 3 exams (one of which will be a mandatory Introduction to American Law; the other two, however, can be freely chosen by students), and complete a research on a topic of their choice, for a total of 30 ECTS credits.
In order to participate in the program it is necessary to submit an application to the call, which is published annually by the Department of Legal Sciences.
The selection procedure consists of the evaluation of the academic curriculum and an oral interview to verify the knowledge of the English language. In order to leave, it is necessary to have completed the exams of the first two years of the course.
The selected students will only be required to pay the registration fee at La Sapienza, transport costs, the purchase of textbooks and for the possible use of some facilities of the partner university. There is no payment of the registration fee at the Columbia Law School.
Students are guaranteed free accommodation at the College Italia and are offered scholarships funded by the Area for the Internationalization of La Sapienza.
To date, more than twenty Italian students have taken part in the programme, who have found work in prestigious institutions (e.g., at the Avvocatura dello Stato), in important international and national professional studios (e.g., at DLA Piper) or who have continued their study and research activities.
The programme is particularly suitable for those who intend to work in the legal professions and private companies, especially in the fields of civil, commercial and administrative law, in an international and/or national perspective. The training programme is also very suitable for those who wish to continue their studies and research in legal subjects.
