ETIOPATOGENESI DELLE MALATTIE 1036423 2023/2024

Program

Anatomic pathology: laboratory, methodologies and diagnostic paths. Neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the oral cavity: vesiculo-bullous lesions; ulcerative lesions; white lesions; blue-red lesions; pigmented lesions; verrucous-papillary lesions. Oral carcinoma: carcinogenesis, risk factors, prevention, early diagnosis, clinical and pathological features. At the beginning of the course, about 2 hours are dedicated to the general aspects of Anatomic Pathology. The rest of the course is dedicated to the specific topics included in the program.

Program

Pathological Anatomy as medical science. The laboratory of Pathological Anatomy. Diagnostic paths and methodologies in Pathological Anatomy. Embryogenesis and macroscopic and microscopic anatomy of the oral cavity. Neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathology of the oral cavity: white lesions blue-red lesions; pigmented lesions; vesiculobullous lesions; verrucous-papillary lesions; ulcerative lesions. Oral carcinoma: carcinogenesis and risk factors, prevention, early diagnosis and clinical and pathological features. Neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathology of the major and minor salivary glands. Odontogenic tumors. Non-odontogenic tumors, cysts and inflammatory pathology of gnathic bones. Metabolic and genetic disorders with involvement of the oro-cranio-facial district. Systemic pathology: pathology of the cardiovascular system (with particular reference to arteriosclerosis and myocardial infarction); pathology of the respiratory system (with particular reference to infectious and vascular diseases, restrictive and obstructive disease and neoplastic pathologies); pathology of the digestive system (with particular reference to neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and associated glands); pathology of the skeleton (neoplastic and non-neoplastic); pathology of hemolymphopoietic tissue (with particular reference to anemias, leukemias, chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndromes and lymphomas). The teaching program will be carried out with the presentation of numerous clinical cases both in the field of pathology of the oral and cranio-facial district and of pathologies affecting other organs and systems with implications in dentistry. No more than 6 hours, at the beginning of the first semester, will be dedicated to the general aspects of the subject. The rest of the course will be dedicated to discussing the specific topics of the program.

Program

Anatomic Pathology as medical science. The laboratory of Anatomic Pathology. Diagnostic paths and methodologies in Anatomic Pathology. Blood vessels (arteriosclerosis, vasculitides, aneurysms). Heart (congestive heart disease, ischemic heart disease, endocardial and valvular diseases, myocardial diseases, pericardial diseases). Lung and Pleura (vascular disorders, chronic obstructive disease, infections, interstitial diseases, tumors). Gastrointestinal tract (congenital diseases, inflammations, vascular lesions, malabsorption syndromes, tumors). Liver and biliary tract  (hereditary diseases, circulatory disorders, infection, cirrhosis, tumors). Pancreas (pancreatitis, tumors); Kidney (cystic disease, glomerular diseases, tubular and tubular-interstitial diseases, diseases of blood vessels, lithiasis, tumors). Urinary bladder (inflammations, tumors). Hematopoiesis, bone marrow and spleen (anemia, leukemias, chronic myeloproliferative diseases, lymphomas). Nervous system (infections, vascular disease, trauma, tumors). Male genital system (inflammations, vascular disturbances, tumors); Female genital system (inflammations, vascular disturbances, tumors) Breast (fibrocystic disease, tumors). Endocrine system (hypo- and hyperfunction conditions, tumors). Skeletal system (infections, metabolic disorders, tumors).
The teaching course includes the discussion of numerous clinical cases. No more than 6 hours, at the beginning of the first semester, is  dedicated to the general aspects of Anatomic Pathology, the rest of the course is dedicated to the specific topics of the program.

Program

Molecular analysis of formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissues (2 hours). Molecular analysis in the diagnosis and prognosis of tumors of the haematopoietic and lymhoid tissues (3 hours). Molecular analysis in the diagnosis and study of genetic skeletal disease, in particular Fibrous dysplasia of bone (3 hours).

Classic biomaterials: essential features and most common applications for therapeutic and cosmetic pourposes. interactions between biomaterials and human tissues. Biomaterials in cardiovascular diseases: vascular and valvular prostheses. Biomaterials and skeletal diseases: joint prostheses and other medical devices. Biomaterials and tissue engineering. Generation and analysis of experimental models to study biomaterials. Biomaterials and stem cells in skeletal tissue regeneration.
