The Course of Traffic Engineering and Intelligent Transport Systems is divided into two parts: one, in the first Semester, is focused on the fundamentals of Traffic Theory and its applications to Traffic Engineering; the other, in the Second Semester, deals with methods and technologies for Traffic Engineering and Intelligent Transport Systems applications. A Traffic Control Project will be prepared by students all along the course.
However, the course is unique and the exam will be held at the end of the whole course, corresponding to the end of the second semester.
The final exam consists of written and oral tests during which the students will present their projects.
An intermediate informal test will be held at the end of the first semester to be exempted from the part of the written exam dealt with during the first semester.

Gaetano Fusco è nato a Napoli il 10 agosto 1963. E' professore ordinario di Trasporti presso l'Università di Roma La Sapienza , dove insegna Traffic Engineering and Intelligent Transportation Systems. Dal 1991 è iscritto all'Ordine degli Ingegneri. Dal 1992 al 2005 è stato ricercatore e fino al 2022 associato presso la stessa Università.
Da febbraio 2021 è direttore del Centro di Ricerca Interdipartimentale per il Trasporto e la Logistica dell'Università di Roma "La Sapienza".
Da ottobre 2021 è presidente del Consiglio di Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Transport Systems Engineering.
E esperto tecnico-scientifico del Ministero dell Istruzione, dell Università e della Ricerca e valutatore di importanti progetti di ricerca scientifica nazionali, come i Grandi Progetti Strategici della ricerca (GPS) ed i Programmi Operativi Nazionali (PON).
E coordinatore dello Spoke Urban Mobility del Centro Nazionale della mobilità sostenibile approvato dal MUR ed è inoltre coordinatore scientifico di numerosi progetti di ricerca finanziati da parte di società private ed enti pubblici. In particolare, è responsabile scientifico delle valutazioni di impatto sulle politiche dei trasporti della Commissione Europea, Direzione DG TREN, poi DG MOVE, svolte in un consorzio coordinato dalla società PricewaterhouseCoopers.
E autore di circa 80 pubblicazioni scientifiche sulla letteratura nazionale ed internazionale inerenti varie tematiche dei sistemi di trasporto, quali la progettazione delle reti di trasporto, la logistica e la pianificazione dei trasporti, la modellazione e la stima della domanda di trasporto, la teoria del deflusso veicolare, ma prevalentemente focalizzate sulle metodologie di applicazioni dei Sistemi di Trasporto Intelligenti, quali la regolazione semaforica, i sistemi di informazione all'utenza, la stima delle condizioni di traffico.
