Paolo Dore is Associate Professor of Physics at Sapienza University of Roma. The scientific activity of PD has been devoted to the study of different physical systems, mainly through infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopy. At first, systems of non-polar simple molecules in the gaseous, liquid, and solid phases were first studied through absorption measurements in the far-IR region. The optical properties of bulk and film samples of high-Tc superconductors were the studied in the entire IR region. Since 1995 the scientific activity of PD has been mainly devoted to the study of strongly correlated electron systems, mainly by means of IR and, more recently, by Raman spectroscopy, also coupled to the high pressure technique by using diamond anvil cells (DAC). In particular, the pressure/temperature dependence of the insulator-to-metal transition in manganites and related perovskite oxides were studied and information on the electron-phonon coupling was obtained. Since 2000 Raman and IR spectroscopy have been applied to study the properties of magnesium diboride MgB(2). In particular, the clean or dirty character of superconductivity in different samples have been studied in the far-IR region and measurements on high quality films of MgB(2) and V(3)Si have then shown the effect of the two superconducting gaps in the terahertz spectrum. Raman, IR and EXAFS spectroscopy have been more recently applied to the study of pnictides, the new Fe-based superconducting systems, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as picene in which superconductivity has been observed. Finally, owing to the large interest devoted to graphene and graphene-like systems, layered compounds such as MoS(2) (transition metal dichalcogenide) and black phosphorus have been studied.

Results of the scientific activity of PD are reported in about 120 publications on international scientific journals.
PD was coordinator of two biennal PRIN grants (1997, 2000).
