Curriculum

Renato Cicchetti was born in Rieti, Italy, in May 1957. He received the Laurea degree in electronics engineering (summa cum laudee) from the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” Rome, Italy, in 1983. From 1983 to 1986, he was an Antenna Designer at Selenia Spazio S.p.A. (now Thales Alenia Space S.p.A.), Rome, Italy, where he was involved in studies on theoretical and practical aspects of antennas for space application and scattering problems. From 1986 to 1994, he was a Researcher, and from 1994 to 1998, he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electronics Engineering, University of Rome “La Sapienza,” where he is currently a Full Professor. In 1998, 2002, and in 2006 he was Visiting Professor at the Motorola Florida Corporate Electromagnetics Research Laboratory, Fort Lauderdale, FL, where he was involved with antennas for cellular and wireless communications. In 2004, he coordinated the research program “EMC/EMI characterization of an airport environment in presence of complex electromagnetic sources” of the MIUR/CNR-ENEA (2001-2004) devoted to the protection of people and environment from EM emissions, in 2004-2005 he was the coordinator of a research program concerning the development of a satellite link with a WLAN communication system operating within a train, while in (2009-2010) he was involved, in cooperation with Telespazio SpA and ASI, in the research program “EmerSat”. Finally, from 2017 to 2019 he was one of the coordinators of the research project “Ultra-wideband Virtual Imaging Extra Wall for high penetration high quality imagery of enclosed structures” funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. He also serves as a Reviewer of many scientific journals. His current research interests include electromagnetic field theory, asymptotic techniques, electromagnetic compatibility, wireless communications, microwave and millimeter-wave integrated circuits, and antennas. Prof. Cicchetti is a Life Senior Member of the IEEE. He was appointed reviewer for the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques, IEEE Transaction on Electromagnetic Compatibility, IEEE Transaction on Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Antennas and Propagation Letters, IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation, International Journal of Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, IET Antennas and Propagation, Electronic Letters, International Journal of Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Computer-Aided Engineering, Radio Science, Sensors, and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. He was a member of the Organizing Committee of the International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility EMC Roma, and of the Editorial Board of the IEEE International Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation. He was chairman of the special session “Novel Circuits and Devices for High-Speed Applications” of the 2003 AP-S International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC/CNC/URSI North American Radio Science Meeting, Columbus, Ohio, USA. He is the Lead Editor of the Annual Special Issue on “Wideband, Multiband, Tunable, and Smart Antenna Systems for Mobile UWB Wireless Applications” for the International Journal of Antennas and Propagation of which he is currently a member of the Editorial Board. Finally, his biography is cited in Marquis Who’s Who in the Science and Engineering.
