- Ph.D.in Electronics Engineering from the University of Roma Tre, Rome, Italy (1998).

- University of Rome La Sapienza , 5 years Laurea Degree in Electrical Engineering (1993).

Appointments

- Since 2001 with the University of Rome La Sapienza , formerly as Assistant and then Associate Professor at DIET Dept. (DIET) .

- Previously (1994 -2001) I joined Fondazione Ugo Bordoni, Rome, Italy as a Researcher.

Industry interactions and technology transfer

- I have participated to the ISO JTC1/SC29/WG11 MPEG-4 standardization activity (1993-1998), see: A. Neri, et al Automatic Moving Object and Background Separation", Signal Processing Vol. 66, No. 2, April 1998, cited by several US Patents:

- I have been Principal Investigator for the Italian side of the French-Italian UIF Galileo project "Multiview post-processing using perceptual fusion approach for free-view point television services" between Sapienza and Université Paris 13 (2013), PI of industrial contract on the topic of speech enhancement (2001), co-PI of industrial contract on the topic of H.264 video coding for TETRA networks ( 2005). I have participated to several Italian and EU projects/contracts.

Inter-institutional agreement promotion

- Scientific scholar responsible for Sapienza of the Executive Protocol for the project ICT for welfare and safety between Sapienza DIET Dept. and Florida Atlantic University College of Engineering 2018

- Promoter of the Inter-institutional agreement between Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and Sapienza, Facoltà I3S 2016

- Promoter of the Inter-institutional agreement between Université Paris XIII and Sapienza (Facoltà I3S 2012, ICI 2019).

Contribution to engineering education and student mentoring

I am currently teaching at Sapienza the i) graduate course Multimedia Systems for 5G, (MS Communication Engineering Degree) ii) graduate course Elaborazione delle Immagini (in Italian) (MS Biomedical Engineering Degree). Since 1998 I have been teaching various undergraduate/graduate courses on the topics of signal theory and multimedia communication (Signal theory, Image processing, Biomedical signal processing, Multimedia communications, Multimedia Systems, either in Italian or in English). I have supervised/co-supervised more than forty MS Theses.

Since 2001 I am member of PhD advisory boards on Information and Communication Technologies. I have been supervisor /co-supervisor of three PhD theses. I have taught short courses at Université Paris 13 within the Erasmus Teaching Staff Mobility Program (2012, 2013, 2016). I have been Member of PHD Mid-Term and Final Jury of PhD thesis at Université Paris 13 (2012, 2013, 2014), Final Jury of PhD thesis at NTNU (2019,2021).
