The course topics are aimed at transferring the knowledge necessary to interact in different disciplinary contexts of research, particularly sociology, economics, statistics. The course involves learning the contents by simulating practical-application exercises, starting with simulations of concrete cases of applied empirical research
Logic and language of the social research process (formulation of scientific problems, survey strategies, research design, conceptualization and operationalization).
Main techniques of direct survey. Questionnaire construction; phrasing, scaling and testing techniques; adaptation of survey collection techniques in relation to research design (from localized small-sample surveys to large-scale surveys).
Analysis of major national and international secondary data sources.
Data management and data analysis techniques.
2. Ability to apply acquired knowledge
Design and carry out empirical research in the field of applied social sciences, with particular reference to issues of well-being, sustainability and quality of life. Know how to choose and use the quantitative and qualitative tools and techniques of social research. Know how to critique, justify, argue and support methodological choices with respect to the cognitive and/or applied objectives of social research. Know how to work in research groups by interacting constructively and collaboratively to define and achieve research objectives.
