Educational objectives

General objectives: the course is aimed at students of master's degree courses who already possess historical-literary, metric and narratological knowledge, and intends to present an exemplary theme (an author, a text, a genre ... ) of particular importance, also on the methodological level, inserting it into the current discussions on the subject, placing it in the appropriate historical-literary context, and highlighting the most relevant philological problems.
Specific training objectives are: 1. acquisition of in-depth skills concerning nodal issues of Italian studies; 2. acquisition of a secure working methodology (critical analysis of the current bibliography, ability to work directly on ancient and modern texts, ability to put them in relation with other historical-cultural disciplines); 3. ability to discuss critical bibliography at an advanced level; 4. ability to communicate the acquired information and explain the procedures that allowed the acquisition; 5. development of new texts analysis skills through their formal characters, and the comparison between similar objects.

Enhancement and integration of the knowledge acquired in the first Cycle Degree.

Strengthening and refinement of the analysis skills of the forms of the literary text and its problems.
Ability to insert literary, linguistic and critical studies into a wider panorama of historical, philosophical and historical-artistic knowledge. Ability to analyze the literary work in its historical-cultural context (italian and european).

C) Making judgments (Dublin Descriptor 3)

The autonomy of judgment will be acquired through lessons held in seminar form and with the intervention of external scholars. The student's activities must allow a correct critical interpretation of the texts (forms and problems) and of the documentary sources, through which the student will be able to orient himself correctly, linking the various areas of literary, linguistic and philological knowledge.

D) Communication skills (Dublin Descriptor 4)
Students must reach a high level of knowledge and understanding of literary texts in order to be able to explain their forms, meaning and circulation, both orally and in writing, showing autonomy of judgment and adequate language skills. These skills will be verified by drafting written papers (term papers, reports on particular aspects of the course, etc.) whose results the student must present orally to the class, in a clear and effective way from a communicative point of view.

E) Laerning skills (Dublin Descriptor 5)

The acquisition of learning skills will take place by stimulating students to study individually, to organize study time, to bibliographic research, to the critical study of texts and sources, to participation in seminar activities, to the research and drafting of short texts (term papers). At the end of the course, the student must be able to independently design his own research path.

The students will acquire good knowledge of Contemporary Italian Literature and its evolution in the last two centuries, an high level knowledge and ability to interpret texts and the development of an adequate knowledge of the new trends and literary genres of the 2000s. Secondary objective is development of interdisciplinary skill (expecially on visual arts and new languages) and adequate communication skills.

The course presents the central topics of sociolinguistic, italian linguistic framework and education in italian language.

Specific skills

Knowledge and understanding
The student will have to demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of the concepts foreseen by the course, with attention to the relative educational applications, according to scientific literature and ministerial documents; the student will know the scientific literature on the topics covered and will be able to comment on it critically.

Applying knowledge and understanding
The student will be able to describe the Italian contemporary language and its variability, to formulate hypotheses in the context of Italian-Romance sociolinguistic and language teaching on the basis of the concepts and analytical tools acquired, to recognize and to plan educational activities.

Making judgements
The student will be able to move freely and independently between problems and topics related to sociolinguistics, linguistic education, and will be able to reason on the teaching activities.

Communication skills
The student must know how to communicate with specialists in sociolinguistic and glottodidactic studies and non-specialists the concepts of the discipline with clarity, propriety of language and using the technical terminology of the discipline.

Learning skills
The student will have to know how to use and find the tools to deepen and update (constantly and autonomously) the knowledge in the disciplinary area, according to his own scientific interests and to the real educational needs.

The course aims to deepen a literary topic, a theme, an author, a historical period, through the direct reading of the provided texts and the knowledge of different kinds of writing.

2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding

At the end of the course the student must be able to deal with the study of a specific literary topic, relate the texts with the cultural and historical context, know how to use the critical and philological language, know how to construct intertextual maps.

3) Critical and judgment skills:

The analysis of the texts is a fundamental tool for making the student acquire the ability to read and interpret literary texts in poetry and prose; during the lectures various texts will be analyzed, also with autonomous working methods such as written reports and reading laboratories, to favor the critical spirit and the independent judgment of the student.

4) Ability to communicate what has been learned:

To encourage communication concerning the comprehension of a literary text or the analysis of a critical problem, individual and group reports in written and oral form will be favored, as well as comments in lectures on the texts.

5) Ability to continue the study autonomously in the course of life:

The understanding of literary texts, the habit of reading and the ability to organize critical reflection independently are useful practices even beyond university study.

The course aims to provide the student knowledge about the economic, social,cultural and religious factors that have shaped the history of ancient Rome. Aim of the teaching unit is to give students knowledge and comprehension skills in the field of Roman Antiquities and Institutions, that complete and/or reinforce those acquired in the first grade of studies. Moreover, it will make the students able to approach orginal themes in a research context, making more complex judgments, communicating knowledge and its process, and studying the subject in an independent and self-educational way. In particular, the course aims at providing students with competence on the basic tools for research in the field of Latin epigraphy and Roman institutions and knowledge of the main fields of research with deepening of methodological skills

The teaching of Dante Philology aims to transmit to the student the knowledge of the life and works of Dante Alighieri from the historical, textual and historical-linguistic point of view and to discuss the main problems relating to the edition of texts, to research sources and commentary.

The educational purpose is the possession of the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary 1) to "read" a critical edition of novel texts (interpreting and decoding the methods and scientific formulas proper to Romance ecdotics), 2) to "produce" a critical edition of novel texts (interpreting the text in the historicity of its testimonies, recomposing them, according to literary and linguistic reasons, in the "abstraction" of the critical text).

The Course aims to offer students tools for historical-critical analysis of art from the 15th to the beginning of the 19th century - through a theme-based and chronological cut, which allows students to orient themselves in the sources and in the bibliography, in order to develop - in time - ability to read, interpret, link works and historical-artistic events.

Finality of the course is the critical approach of the students to the most important tendencies of the Contemporary Art from the end of the XVIII century to the present time. To attain this aim will be necessary memorize a given number of images along with the instruments for analysis and comprehension of their continuity and discontinuity. This exercise will be supported by a continuous confrontation with the other visual arts.

At the end of the course the student will have to be able to read and translate properly the texts in the programme. Moreover, he/she will have to be familiar with linguistic, philologic and literary issues related to those texts (point 1).
