In recent years, there has been a remarkable development in genetics and molecular biology, two disciplines that have progressively integrated and now represent the central and unifying theme of modern biology.
These disciplines are used together to dissect and understand the genetic and molecular bases that regulate complex biological processes such as development and cellular differentiation in both animal and plant systems. Moreover, understanding these mechanisms makes it possible to determine how gene malfunction is related to the onset of human diseases.
