Course objectives

Provide the student with information useful for understanding the phenomena underlying the main, side and toxic effects of drug classes with emphasis on those used in radiology and with reference to contrasts and first-aid drugs.

Course program
First aid: the chain of survival. Causes and prevention of cardiac arrest. ABCDE approach. Basic life support: cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adults (BLS, Basic Life Support), children, and infants (PBLS, Pediatric Basic Life Support). Semi-automatic defibrillation. Reversible causes of cardiac arrest. First aid for airway obstruction in adults and children. Heimlich maneuver. General concepts on adverse reactions to contrast media and acute contrast-induced kidney injury. General concepts of emergency imaging (X-ray, ECO-FAST, CT): head trauma, rib fractures, pneumothorax, ruptured spleen/hemoperitoneum, abdominal perforation and obstruction, acute appendicitis, acute pancreatitis.

Knowledge of general pathology and pathological anatomy
