1. Fundamentals of energy systems: definitions, energy cycles, conversion and transport; energy carriers.
2. Units of measurement and orders of magnitude; renewable and non-renewable energy sources: origin, resources, and applied technologies.
3. Energy balances: Earth’s energy balance; National Energy Balances (NEB) and related metrics; final energy consumption by sector.
4. Hospital as an energy system: electrical/thermal load profiles, hospital energy balance, energy-intensive departments; service continuity (UPS, emergency generators).
5. Machine–environment interaction: types of emissions (gaseous, liquid, solid, noise, thermal); hospital emission points (stacks/CHP, gensets, chillers–cooling towers, AHUs).
